A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Thaicom 6 communications satellite. Thaicom 6 will provide C-band and Ku-band communications services acros Southeast Asia and Africa. The rocket will fly in the Falcon 9 v1.1 configuration with upgraded Merlin 1D engines, stretched fuel tanks, and a payload fairing.
THAICOM-6 will launch in 2013 and will provide Africa and Asia with flexible satellite communication end-to-end services. The African payload and C-band mission of THAICOM-6 will be marketed as AFRICOM-1. THAICOM-6/AFRICOM-1 will provide broadcasters and telecom operators with a full range of satellite communication services via its high-power C-band and Ku-band beams to satisfy the growing demand for Direct-to-Home (DTH) and Digital TV, as well as data services.
